The
spicy bands that keep the place jumpin' include Dr. Zoot,
Blue Lunch, 5 Guys Named Moe, Joe Campus & His Big Band,
Jennie Luvv & The Boilermaker Jazz Band, The Pawnbrokers
and many more.
The
cool music is only one part of the scene...
What about the clothes?
Some of the dancers really go all
out with black and white spectator shoes, wide brimmed hats,
bright zoot suits, double-looped watch chains, fancy ties,
and wide skirted 50's dresses.
Line
Dances
Line dances are also popular at
swing city. We do the Charleston, shim sham, hot hot hot,
shake that thang, jitterbug stroll, and many more.
We
do more than just swing!
Show up on a Saturday night and
you might also see the Cha-cha, Waltz, Polka, and Foxtrot!
We play a variety of music, and dance a wide range of dance
styles!
No
partner, no problem!
Swing City is the largest saturday
night singles dance in Pittsburgh! You're sure to run into
old friends and make new friends in the relaxed, smoke-free
environment!
So
getting back to becoming a Hep Cat...
The dance hall is located in Squirrel
Hill on Solway street in the Wightman School Community Building.
The dance is held every Saturday night, and beginner dance
lessons are from 8 to 9 PM. The dance goes until midnight,
and there is a cover charge of $8.00 ($10.00 for band nights)
for this air-conditioned, all ages and nonsmoking event.
To find Swing City, take the parkway
east to the Squirrel Hill exit, then make the first immediate
left. Go up to the light at Murray. Make a soft left onto
Murray and go for one mile - then make a left on Solway.
Swing City is in the middle of the second block on the left.
